Korea Yachts Set Sail for Yisunsin Cup International Yacht Race

Nov 06, 2019

The 13th annual Yisunsin Cup International Yacht Race is set to take place from November 6 to 10 on the coastal waters around Hansando Island and Donamhang Port. As one of Asia’s three major yacht races, Yisunsin Cup was named in honor of Admiral Yi Sun-sin to commemorate his feats on an international level while promoting yachting and other recreational marine sports.

Before the actual race begins, a ceremonial event takes place where representatives of each participating country, international chairpersons, and the winning team from the previous year gather and pay respects to Admiral Yi at Jeseungdang Shrine on Hansando Island. The main race, “International Cruiser Race,” will take place from November 8 to 10 on the waters of Hansando and Bijindo Islands.

Spectators can enjoy the race from various locations, notably at Hallyeosudo Viewing Ropeway, Kumho Tongyeong Marina Resort, or Tongyeong International Music Hall. In addition, visitors to the main event venue can also take advantage of the yacht and sailboat boarding experience during the race period. Other activities and programs will also take place at the Tongyeong Triathlon Plaza, such as driving a RC yacht experience, flea market, and Marine Festival, featuring Norazo.
